    It wouldn't really meet the theme requirements of this month's contest, would it? Melvelous has none of those cards.

    Now, that doesn't necessarily mean that Hand of Melvelous is a badly designed item—it's just got a different design goal.

  3. There are tons of items that currently exist, especially in the base set, that would turn up as examples of bad design in Flax's AA videos. HoM makes no sense thematically and it's a potentially OP item (at least that's what people would be saying if it were submitted). It would have no chance.

    It wouldn't get selected because it is slightly better(in my opinion at least) then Flax's Thirsty Vial.

    That was on my shortlist. I think it would be neat and really mix it up, but I'd hope that it shows up on a rogue-class later and isn't haphazardly thrown on warrior equipment.

    Also, you're supposed to design from the MONSTER first and then for the cards. =)

    I was also very tempted to design an item around Cowardly Attack, but had trouble deciding what the other cards should be to tie it thematically to one of the monsters that uses it. Same with Hemorrhage.

    I ran into similar trouble when trying to concoct a Arcane Item based around the Psi Cat's Psychic Barrage. I thought a cat familiar would be a pretty cool idea for a Halloween themed contest though. (If anyone wants to take this idea and run with it please go ahead!)

    I really, really want Blooming Ground to be a thing, but sadly I don't think that card quality is correct. Mostly because it would be insane with what I want to use it for (Laser Beacon / Dual Laser Beacon)

    I made I item around the War Monkey, I wasnt debating if I should use this card or Pickpocket because pickpocket is much more of a monkey based card but after submitting I was thinking of this item. If Flaxy had let us use more than one monster card, my item would be:

    Way too rogue-like for a Warrior. I could see a single Cowardly Attack or Pickpocket in a 2 Major Token item, but having something accessible and easy to fill multiple slots just takes away from the idea of a Warrior.

    Since there is no rogue (and probably wont be in the near future) I think this would be fine to have on the so called warrior who already has cards like Nimble Strike and Jump Back that seem way too "rogue like" to me. (I dont think there will be a 4th class in the next year because it would change the game too much.)

    If they get around to adding a rogue class, I imagine they would retcon many rogue-themed items to be rogue weapons.

    Designing a weapon/staff is so much more difficult than design a three card item. One reason for that is, that only one monster card is allowed. I ran into that problem with my Dragon Tooth and decided to go with an arcane item, which is so much more flavourful. I guess if it would have been allowed to use two monster cards for a six card item, it would have been easier.

    Yeah, I tried a couple attempts at a staff design as there are many great monster items that would fit nicely on a staff. Magic in the Air in particular what what I wanted to try and add. It could not go on a arcane or divine item as it would be too easy to abuse. The restriction of one monster item made it hard to stay on theme without the design being pretty wishy-washy.

    I really did like the idea of a priest weapon with nimble strikes, flight and a magic in the air(Get the joke?) on it. Of course that didn't match up to any monster in the game other than a slight nod to Blackhammer. So, tough design choices this month. In the end I tried a variety of robes and arcane items but I settled on a set of heavy armor which I thought was a very tight theme, not particularly powerful but I would actually use in some builds. So, I'm pretty happy with that.

    I think Hemorrhage or a hemorrhage like effect would a great and thematic addition to the playable card base. And I tried as well to design an item with it but Tsastii won out in the end for me.
